10 SEMINARS "SOCIOLOGY OF GENDER AND GENDER BASED
VIOLENCE REALIZED IN THE PARTNER SCHOOLS
OF THE HERZEGOVINA-NERETVA CANTON

Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC) Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and TPO Foundation from Sarajevo organized seminars for 200 teachers and pedagogues from October 23 to November 14 in cooperation with their partner schools as part of the Peer and Gender-Based Violence Project (PGBV). The topics of the seminars were gender sociology and gender-based violence. The project coordinator is Emina Jusufbegović, an expert adviser for the HNC Ministry of Education, and the seminar moderators were expert advisers for the Pedagogy Institute and Education Institute, Edna Haznadarević and Andreja Pehar.
The aim of the seminars was to empower school communities in their struggle against all forms of violence in/outside schools and to raise awareness of the unacceptability of violence as a behavioral model in order to help create a preventive social climate.

Ten primary schools from the City of Mostar participated in this project:

At the seminar which was held on November 14, basic terms in gender sociology were presented: sex and gender, biological and genetical interpretations of sex and gender, gender identity, theory on gender roles as well as gender inequalities which arise from prejudices and stereotypes. The participants of the seminar also learned about legal documents on domestic violence and gender equality, as an institutional response to solving these highly important social issues.
The aim of the seminar was to introduce the participants with theoretical knowledge related to gender issues and gender relations and to bring awareness to manifest and latent forms of gender inequality.  

This seminar is only one of the planned activities by TPO Foundation as part of the program which has been successfully implemented for the past three years with the City of Mostar partner schools, and it is part of the Action Program on Peer and Gender-Based Violence Prevention by the HNC Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
The next activity which would help empower teachers and pedagogues is about the issue od trauma and how it affects the quality of life and is often the cause for either the perpetration or suffering of violence, and it will be held on December 18 and 19, 2018.
